Scripture: B’midbar (Num) 23:6-10 not think itself one of the nations.

 

SYNOPSIS: Today we are going to study the topic of separation. What does it mean to not think of yourself as one of the nations? The phrase “set apart” is in the bible 46 times. This topic is something each of us needs to explore. As an example we will discuss the difference between why YEHOVAH blessed the American Revolution and not the French Revolution,

Num 23:9  "From the top of the rocks I see them, from the hills I behold them—yes, a people that will dwell alone and not think itself one of the nations. 

 

THINK – RECKONED: H2803 חשׁב  châshab BDB Definition: 1) to think, plan, esteem, calculate, invent, make a judgment, imagine, count 2) to esteem, value, regard 3) to be accounted, be thought, be esteemed, be reckoned 4) to be considered

 

Ester 3:2-8 Their laws are different from those of every other people.

Est 3:8  Then Haman said to Achashverosh, "There is a particular people scattered and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom. Their laws are different from those of every other people; moreover, they don't observe the king's laws. It doesn't befit the king to tolerate them.

RIGHTEOUSNESS: G1343 δικαιοσύνη dikaiosunē  Thayer Definition: 1) in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God 2) the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God 3) integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting

 

PARTNERS: G3352 μετοχή metochē  Thayer Definition: a sharing, communion, fellowship

 

FELLOWSHIP: G2842 κοινωνία koinōnia Thayer Definition: 1) fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation 2) intercourse, fellowship, intimacy 3) the right hand as a sign and pledge of fellowship (in fulfilling the apostolic office)

Exo 19:3  Moshe went up to God, and YEHOVAH called to him from the mountain: "Here is what you are to say to the household of Ya`akov, to tell the people of Isra'el: 

Exo 19:4  'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 

Exo 19:5  Now if you will pay careful attention to what I say and keep my covenant, then you will be my own treasure from among all the peoples, for all the earth is mine; 

Exo 19:6  and you will be a kingdom of cohanim for me, a nation set apart.' These are the words you are to speak to the people of Isra'el."

COVENANT: H1285 בּרית  berı̂yth BDB Definition: 1) covenant, alliance, pledge 2) treaty, alliance, league (man to man) 3) constitution, ordinance (monarch to subjects) 4) agreement, pledge (man to man) 5) alliance (of friendship), alliance (of marriage),  alliance (of friendship) 6) covenant (divine ordinance with signs or pledges)

 

Sh’mot (Ex) 31:12-14 set apart.

Exo 31:14  Therefore you are to keep my Shabbat, because it is set apart for you. Everyone who treats it as ordinary must be put to death; for whoever does any work on it is to be cut off from his people.
