Vayeshev (He continued living)
B’resheet/ Genesis 37:1-40:23
Synopsis – Yosef/Joseph’s special mantle Coat, Yosef’s prophetic dreams, Yosef
is sold into slavery by his brother’s because of jealousy.
Theme & Message –
The focus of this
lesson is that when we persevere in the things of God, no matter how
circumstances may appear, we can be certain we will receive the promises of God.
This is an encouragement that in the face of adversity, those who follow God’s
will are assured of the Lord’s presence with them. Even when it may seem that
the Lord is far off.
B’resheet/ GENESIS 39
In this chapter the history returns to Yoseph again, who being brought down to
Egypt was sold to Potiphar, with whom he found favor, and who set him over his
house, the Lord prospering everything in his hands, Gen_39:1; and being a
young man of a comely aspect, his mistress lusted after him, and tempted him to
lie with her from time to time, but he as constantly refused it, as being both
ingratitude to his master, and a sin against God, Gen_39:7; at a certain
time they being alone in the house, she renewed her solicitations, and laid hold
on his garment (Mantle-Tallit), which he left in her hand and fled, Gen_39:11;
upon which she called to her servants without, and accused Yoseph of an ill
design upon her, and reported the same to her husband when he came home,
Gen_39:13; upon which his master put him into prison, but he found favor
also with the keeper of it, who committed the prisoners and all things relative
to them into his hands, Gen_39:20. |
