P103 The Sukkot – Revelation Connection
1Co 9:24 Don't you know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one wins the prize? So then, run to win!
1Co 9:25 Now every athlete in training submits himself to strict discipline, and he does it just to win a laurel wreath that will soon wither away. But we do it to win a crown that will last forever.
When reading this passage of the writing of what most people know as Paul we must stop and pause. First we must understand that Paul is not Paul he is Messianic rabbi Sha’ul. Yes I know for many people it is hard to think that the great Paul was not a gentile but a Jew through and through. He was writing this letter to the new converts not to Christianity but proselytes to Messianic Judaism. G4339 προσήλυτος prosēlutos Thayer Definition: one who has come over from a Gentile religion to Judaism. Now that we have the proper definition what a proselyte is we now have a background of something very important. Rav Sha’ul is writing this letter to the Messianic Congregation in Corinth. He uses an example of “Running a race” what would this phrase mean to a group of people who are converts to Messianic Judaism? Rav Sha’ul then speaks about submitting ourselves to “STRICT” discipline. What does this statement mean in reference to running the race and the WORD? Rav. Sha’ul then goes on to write about a crown that will last forever. What does that statement mean in regards to the TANAK “OT” that was being read by all those converts? Most of all what does this have to do with the holy day ordained by Yehovah, Sukkot?
