Humbly remember that we learn about promises from Yehovah, therefore, they are sacred. Without faithfulness, a covenant is meaningless and impossible for us to keep.

The word faithfulness first appears in Genesis 32:10. Yaakov prays to Adonai declaring his unworthiness of the loving-kindness and faithfulness shown to him by his Lord. Yaakov prays this in response to the Lord’s vow or promise to Jacob and his descendants making them a mighty and prosperous nation.

Then Ya`akov said, "God of my father Avraham and God of my father Yitz'chak, Adonai, who told me, 'Return to your country and your kinsmen, and I will do you good':  I’m not worthy of all the love and faithfulness you have shown your servant, since I crossed the Yarden with only my staff.

But now I have become two camps.

Please! Rescue me from my brother `Esav! I'm afraid of him, afraid he'll come and attack me, without regard for mothers or children.  You said, 'I will certainly do you good and make your descendants as numerous as the grains of sand by the sea, which are so many they can't be counted.' "

Genesis 32:9-12

From the day of the betrothal or promise, there is an expectation of love and kindness that projects into the married couples lives far into the eternal future. The roots of this concept are also eternal.

The theme of faithfulness linked to loving-kindness is repeated throughout the scriptures as a matter of the Lord’s heart and the Lord’s desires towards His people. The Lord associates the characteristics of loving-kindness and faithfulness as imbedded into the foundation of making a promise, a betrothal, a covenant.

"But now I am going to woo her — I will bring her out to the desert and I will speak to her heart.  I will give her her vineyards from there and the Akhor Valley as a gateway to hope. She will respond there as she did when young, as she did when she came up from Egypt. "On that day," says Adonai "you will call me Ishi [My Husband]; you will no longer call me Ba`ali [My Master].  For I will remove the names of the ba`alim from her mouth; they will never again be mentioned by name.  When that day comes, I will make a covenant for them with the wild animals, the birds in the air and the creeping things of the earth. I will break bow and sword, sweep battle from the land, and make them lie down securely. I will betroth you to me forever; yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in grace and in compassion; I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you will know Adonai .

Hosea 2:14-20

Conversely, the Word demonstrates that a lack of truth, of faithfulness, and of loving-kindness all comes from the same root trouble. These are clear signs of men who do not know Adonai.

Hear the word of Adonai, people of Isra'el! For Adonai has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: there is no truth, no faithful love or knowledge of God in the land
