There is a high calling on the married couple to exhibit a complex
tapestry of outward signs of faith in Yeshua first, and then followed by
faithfulness to the covenant of marriage.
Yeshua
teaches that faithfulness is a foundational matter of the Torah.
Justice and truth as a body of ethical or religious knowledge. Mercy as
an outward sign of loving-kindness. Trust which grows out of
faithfulness.
"Woe
to you hypocritical Torah-teachers and P'rushim!
You pay your tithes of
mint, dill and cumin; but you have neglected the weightier matters of
the Torah — justice, mercy, trust. These are the things you
should have attended to — without neglecting the others!
Matthew 23:23
Marriage is so precious to
Adonai that He provides highly specialized expert spiritual tools and
materials for the couple to succeed. Faithfulness is included in this
package.
Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit.
These are the gifts and treasures that Yeshua has entrusted to his
servants. These are the tools he has given to us to use while working in
His vineyard.
But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands
against such things.
Galatians 5:22
The life your spouse is
entrusted each to the other by Adonai.
Both the man and the woman
are servants who are expected to nurture, protect, and treasure the life
and heart of their betrothed. Both must care for the marriage as a
delicate and beautiful living thing that belongs to the Master and King
Adonai. He has given you to each other to be good stewards of the life
in your betrothed. Treat each other as the precious gem that the Lord
created with His own hands. You are co-laborers in His vineyard; take
care of the small part of the vineyard that has been entrusted to you
until His return.
The Lord,
Yeshua, teaches the importance of the faithfulness of a servant
in matters of ministering in the things that the Master has given. There
are responsibilities that the servant holds. The most important of which
is that he is expected to demonstrate faithfulness towards those
around him. The servant’s behavior towards other people and with
regards to the gifts and things he has been given charge over.
Notice
that the word faithful appears 5 times (the number symbolizing grace)
within the text regarding stewardship of the servant
"Who is the
faithful and sensible servant whose master puts him in charge of the
household staff, to give them their food at the proper time?
Matthew 24:45
"After a long time,
the master of those servants returned to settle accounts with them.
The one who had
received five talents came forward bringing the other five and said,
'Sir, you gave me five talents; here, I have made five more.' His master
said to him, 'Excellent! You are a good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful with a small amount, so I will put you in
charge of a large amount. Come and join in your master's happiness!'
Also the one who had received two came forward and said, 'Sir, you
gave me two talents; here, I have made two more.' His master said to
him, 'Excellent! you are a good and faithful servant. You have
been faithful with a small amount, so I will put you
in charge of a
large amount. Come and join in your master's happiness!' "Now the one
who had received one talent came forward and said, 'I knew you were a
hard man. You harvest where you didn't plant and gather where you didn't
sow seed. I was afraid, so I went and hid your talent in the ground.
Here! Take what belongs to you!' 'You wicked, lazy servant!' said his
master, 'So you knew, did you, that I harvest where I haven't planted?
and that I gather where I didn't sow seed? Then you should have
deposited my money with the bankers, so that when I returned, I would at
least have gotten back interest with my capital! Take the talent from
him and give it to the one who has ten. For everyone who has something
will be given more, so that he will have more than enough; but from
anyone who has nothing, even what he does have will be taken away. As
for this worthless servant, throw him out in the dark, where people will
wail and grind their teeth!'
Matthew 25: 19-30
The
Gospels are a plentiful source of the Lord’s teachings about the
faithfulness of those who would be His servants.
'Excellent!' he said to him. 'You are a good servant. Because you have
been faithful in a small matter, I am putting you in charge of
ten towns.'
Luke 19:17
The concept of
faithfulness has to do with a two- way relationship.
Throughout the epistles, the co-laborers were referred to as
faithful servants
within the ministry. Faithfulness is a requirement
among(between)
the believers as well as with God.
Being a good steward of that which the Lord has given to you is
critical.
The stewardship may include, but is not limited to, land, wealth,
possessions, children, husband, ministry teams or co-laborers. The
demonstration of loving-kindness towards others during our ministry time
on the earth is part of maintaining the covenant with God.
Adonai remembers that we are made as individuals and that we carry those
traits into the marriage covenant. Therefore, we bring distinct
strengths, gifts and tasks to the marriage to strengthen it with
Adonai’s help always by our side.
The
scriptures teach us about our individual roles as prescribed by the
Master.
Each scripture shows us specific ways that the Lord will assist us to
succeed in the requirements He has asked of each of His servants. For
example:
Similarly, the
wives
must be of good character, not gossips, but temperate,
faithful
in everything.
1
Timothy 3:11
Then he said to me, "These words are true and trustworthy:
Adonai, God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel
to show
his servants
the things that must happen soon."
Revelation 22:6
Remain
faithful,
even to the point of death; and
I will
give you life
as your crown.
Revelation 2:10
They will go to war
against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them, because he is Lord of
lords and King of kings, and those who are called, chosen and
faithful will overcome along with him."
Revelation 17:14
These scriptures are just a sampling of the Words of Adonai to His
servants. The dominant theme is the requirement of faithfulness. We
also see that Adonai sends angels, truth and information, and overcoming
power to assist his servants. The expectations are high, but the
provisions of Adonai are equal to the task.
